Li Jianming, born in September, 1966 in Luochuan County, Shaanxi Province, is a professor and academic advisor for post-graduates in vegetable science. He graduated from Northwest University of Agriculture in 1991 and began to work in the same university in the same year. He incepted his Master’s and doctor’s degree of agronomy in 1999 and 2006 separately, and since 2008 has been doing a post-doctoral programme in Institute of Water and Soil Conservation, Chinese Academy of Sciences & Ministry of Water Resources. He had had a further study and training in Israel during Oct. to Nov., 2004, and visited Massey University, New Zealand as a visiting scholar from Sep. 2006 to Sep. 2007. He had visited universities and research institutes in such countries as Holland, Germany, France, Greece, the USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, Egypt, Burundi, Kenya and Thailand to have cooperative research with scientists there.
He had been the vice dean of the research and teaching section of vegetable science and vice dean of protected agriculture department in College of Horticulture in this university. He is now dean of Department of Protected Agricultural Science and Engineering, expert of National Vegetable Industry Technology System, the chief scientist of Shaanxi Provincial Vegetable Industry Technology System, vice dean of Northwest China Protected Agriculture Engineering Key Laboratory of Ministry of Agriculture, vice dean of Shaanxi Protected Agriculture Research Centre, council member of the protected horticulture branch of Chinese Society of Horticultural Science, executive director of Society of Horticulture Science of Shaanxi Province, and director-general of Yangling Protected Agriculture Society. He had been awarded such honorable titles as “Excellent Youth of Yangling District” and “Young Pace-setter of Shaanxi Province”.
2.Research orientation
Prof. Li Jianming mainly engages himself in the research of physiology and ecology of protected vegetables, protected environment engineering, organic vegetable cultivation, layout of modern protected agriculture parks. Specifically his major research interests are in new-type greenhouse design, watering mechanism for greenhouse vegetables, water-fertilizer demand mechanism and growth models of greenhouse crops. In recent years, he has also done a great deal of research on the relations of soil water and the physiological indexes of vegetable growth, and worked out the watering indexes for greenhouse tomato, pepper and cucumber growth in different growing periods from the angles of physiology and environmental engineering. He also did research, on the basis of vegetable water physiology studies, on the simulation and modeling of greenhouse musk melon growth driven by temperature, light and water, on the relations between VDP and vegetable water consumption, and made clear the co-relation of greenhouse temperature-light-water synthesis influences. He is also probing the problem of organic nutrient solutions and soilless culture with them for vegetables. He finished such layout as modern agriculture park in Yangling, modern agriculture zone in Kazakhstan, National agriculture parks in Yulin and Xianyang of Shaanxi Province, modern agriculture parks in Yangzhou of Jiangsu Province, in Xinzheng of Henan Province, in Qinghai Province, desert agricultural park in Zhongwei, Ningxia Autonomous Region, etc.
